How is the Feminist Movement Changing?
In its earliest beginnings, the feminist movement included those who had the ability and privilege to speak up. This mostly included wealthy, white women for a variety of reasons, such as access to resources (time, money, education, etc.) and the level of privilege they had. While they may have received backlash, it was never to the same extent as women of color would receive. At the time, and still today, many women do not participate in the feminist movement because they do not believe it prioritizes their rights. This is something that has changed over time and will continue to do so. Feminism today looks at how a woman's life is influenced by every single detail about her. Her race, ethnicity, social class, sexuality, what gender she was born as, whether she has a disability, etc. Feminism today also looks at gender as a whole, past the typical definition. It examines how gender can be an act and fluid. The feminist movement has expanded and grown in so many ways from its beginnings and will continue to do so. As feminism grows, so do many other intersectional movements, and feminists recognize how they overlap. Feminism can be thought of as a growing tree; it continues to grow stronger over time, with new branches (intersectional areas of discussion) emerging over time as well.
